3-star motel in Whitianga, Coromandel Peninsula: 14 accommodations from standard rooms to a 77 m² family apartment, 5 minutes from Buffalo Beach.

Aotearoa Lodge is a 3-star motel with 14 accommodations located in Whitianga, on the Coromandel Peninsula. Five minutes from Buffalo Beach and approximately 5 km from the town center, the property combines self-contained lodgings, practical services and an on-site tour desk to explore Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and other sites across the peninsula.

Why choose Aotearoa Lodge

The lodge appeals to two traveler profiles: those seeking an independent base to explore Coromandel, and families or groups looking for self-contained accommodation with kitchen facilities. All studios and apartments feature private outdoor space (balcony, terrace or garden), and several units include a kitchenette or full kitchen. The on-site tour desk eliminates the need for trips into town to book the region's must-see activities.

Another advantage is the location: removed from the town center yet just minutes from the beach, with direct access to a golf course from the property. It strikes a useful balance between peaceful surroundings and proximity to beach activities.

Atmosphere

The entire property is organized around a landscaped garden distributing the different buildings. The atmosphere remains that of a classic New Zealand motel: straightforward hospitality, shared common areas (kitchen, lounge, library, barbecue) and interaction between guests. The conference room and outdoor space can accommodate up to 50 people, making it possible to organize intimate weddings, seminars or family reunions.

Accommodations

The lodge offers 14 units divided into four categories:

  • Standard Studios (16.2 m²): queen bed or two king single beds, balcony, air conditioning, private bathroom, lounge area and desk. Some units have been renovated with new bedding.
  • Superior Studios (23.4 m²): larger, with wooden terrace overlooking the gardens, dining area and modern bathroom.
  • Self-contained Studios (28 to 35 m²): equipped kitchenette, dining area, private terrace, capacity up to 3 people.
  • Family Apartment (77 m²): two bedrooms, equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge and access to a private garden via a large terrace, up to 6 people.

Daily housekeeping service is provided.

Services and dining

Continental breakfast is served each morning: breads, artisanal jams, seasonal fruits and hot beverages. Guests also have access to a shared common kitchen to prepare their own meals, useful for longer stays or tighter budgets.

  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the property

Location and access

Aotearoa Lodge is located approximately 5 minutes from Buffalo Beach and 5 km from Whitianga town center, where shops, cafés and restaurants are concentrated. The most convenient airport is Hamilton (HLZ), about 160 km to the south. Car rental remains the recommended way to access the property, via State Highway 26 which crosses the interior of the peninsula. Shuttle and taxi services also ensure connections from the airport for travelers who prefer not to drive.

Nearby attractions

The Coromandel Peninsula features several sites accessible as day trips from the lodge:

  • Cathedral Cove: iconic natural arch, accessible via trail or boat.
