When to visit New Zealand?
At the Antipodes, seasons are reversed: the New Zealand summer stretches from December to February, the most sought-after period for exploring Fiordland's fjords, hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, or tracing the beaches of Northland. Autumn, from March to May, offers stunning golden light over the Marlborough vineyards and a more peaceful tourist flow. The Southern Hemisphere winter, from June to August, attracts ski enthusiasts around Queenstown and Wanaka, while the thermal springs of Rotorua take on striking relief. Spring awakens lambs and cherry blossoms around Arrowtown. Worth noting: the climate changes quickly, especially on the South Island, and it's not uncommon to experience four seasons in a single day.
